The Chronicles of Riddick is a 2004 post-apocalyptic science fiction film written and directed by David Twohy. The film stars Vin Diesel as the title character: Richard B. Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy. The film's plot centers on his attempts to evade capture by those chasing him while also attempting to retrieve an orb called "the Alpha" from an abandoned space station. Filming took place over 28 days in Texas and Serbia with a budget of $38 million (US). Released on September 6, 2013, the directors cut version of the film has been edited to include roughly 20 minutes of new footage not seen in theaters. It is the second film in the franchise to be rated R by the MPAA and is also available unrated on DVD and Blu-ray. Some critics have complained about the changes made to the film: The DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases contain a shortened version of "The Chronicles of Riddick", which includes less than 20 minutes of new footage; however, there is no unrated cut for this release. A released featurette around 10 minutes long around this deleted footage shows off some additional scenes as well as behind-the-scenes interviews with Diesel. This never appeared on DVD or Blu-ray, as was produced by Universal Studios Home Entertainment (now Universal Pictures Home Entertainment) for its release. The bounty hunter Johns is sent to the prison planet Crematoria. When he arrives, he is greeted by a group of prisoners led by Karl, who demands that Johns give him the info on Riddick. Johns informs him that he has been hired by Lord Marshal to capture Riddick and bring him in alive. The prisoners tell him they will help him, but only if he agrees to bring a box for them as well. Their leader Beltzer then tosses the box into the sky. It opens and reveals an alien creature that begins killing everyone around it except for Riddick, who was warned about it beforehand through telepathy by Kyra. The creature is a "Husk", a creature that is genetically engineered for one specific purpose: killing. The next day, Johns and Riddick hear the crash of a ship. Riddick goes to investigate while Johns takes a look at the crash site. He sees an unconscious woman with a dog-tag around her neck with the name "Kyra" on it. He takes her body to Riddick, who says she is from the Necromonger fleet, which he saw when he was in Crematoria's computer systems before. He also says that there are no survivors from the Necromonger fleet; if there were survivors, she would not be here alone. When Johns and Riddick return to the camp, they discover it has been attacked by a second Husk. Beltzer is killed and the others are dying, but they tell Johns to take them to the box. He grabs it and takes off with Riddick before the creature can kill him as well. However, both of them fall into a pit. Beltzer's younger brother, Jernic, finds them and kills the creature for revenge for his brother's death. Johns and Jernic drug Riddick with succinylcholine so they can escape with Kyra after Riddick tells them about her telepathic ability. cfa1e77820
